The Garmin Chipotle team was busy taking various politicians or “tors” out for rides last week during the Democratic Convention. Jonathan Vaughters was surprised when Senator John Kerry showed up on a ride with his own Garmin-Chipotle team kit, shaved legs and great cycling form. Kerry was also very knowledgeable about cycling and was getting together some anti-doping legislation. Kerry impressed the former pro Vaughters with his competence on the bike both uphill and downhill.

Garmin’s TT kit reminds me of the awful Gan team kit of the early 90s featuring Greg Lemond and Chris Boardman. The faded blue with the argyle pattern bring back memories of the blue yellow splatter pattern of the Gan team where even Greg Lemond opted out and wore plain blue shorts.
The TT kits make the new Garmin kits with their white short faux pas forgivable.

The white look is cool, but better make sure the shorts are made of extra thick material. The rainy weather in the Brittany region may not be a good mix.

Meanwhile the new Team Columbia kit is out with a blue jersey and black shorts. The jersey color is close to Milram’s blue which may make the Cavendish/Zabel battles interesting to view from a distance.
