Tour de France English Weekend

The Tour de France’s English jaunt has come to an end after a very successful prologue and stage one. The prologue through London brought out great weather and huge crowds who lined up along some of London’s biggest monuments to take in a bike race. Fabian Cancellara took the win by burning up the course in under 9 minutes for a five mile time trial. The course was not super fast with “chip and seal” type pavement, lots of “traffic furniture” remnants which required racers to bunny hop their bikes at certain points.

McEwen’s Moto Leadout

Ciclismo-online.com has some screen captures from the RAI coverage of stage 1 of Tirreno-Adriatico. Robbie McEwen won in a field sprint, but not without some controversy. On closer inspection it looks like the TV motorcycles are staying a bit too close to the action. So close in fact that they practically give Robbie McEwen a leadout going into the final 300 meters when Robbie was clearly in front.

McEwen Take First Stage of TDU

Robbie McEwen seems to be in top form throughout the year. The Australian sprinter is always primed when he rides on home turf in Australia. Robbie took the first prologue stage of the Tour Down Under which was a 50km stage. He beat out Italians Daniele Colli of Liquigas and Simone Cadamuro of Milram in a bunch sprint with a time of 1h01′06.
