Saturday’s Syracuse Cyclocross Grand Prix had a great turnout and some nice weather. Jochen Woicke the race director put on a great event yet again as several Cross racers descended to Liverpool’s Long Branch Park for a day of racing.
Checkout the three minute trailer for the movie Pure Sweet Hell. Its been out since 2004 but this is my first encounter with it so forgive me if I am a johnny come lately.
I have not tried cyclocross yet, but after the fall series in New York State I did get the bug. Luckily it was dry for most of the races here in the Northeast. In the Netherlands however, the weather can get wet. When it gets wet, it is slippery. Check out this footage. The crashes get worse as more riders pile on.
BINGHAMTON, NY (November 13, 2006) – Eventual 8th place finisher, Mike Kumiega (RUUD Racing) took the hole-shot, but Ted King (Priority Health) took the reigns quickly, and never looked back. It’s probably a good thing he didn’t, because he would have seen Cory Burns (Fiordifrutta) chasing within 20 seconds for the entire race. Matt Dickinson (Placid Planet) solidified his position in 3rd after being over-taken by Burns inside the opening laps.
Pierre Roussel extends lead in the Louis Garneau Central New York Cyclocross Series, Dickinson and Komanecky hold tough.
GREENE, NY (November 6, 2006) – The “endless spirals” and “wall of death” left riders dizzy today at the Greene Elementary School in Greene, NY – a small, historic, town about 20 minutes east of Whitney Point and 40 minutes north of Binghamton. This race benefits the Greene Highschool Senior Class. A mass-start frenzy ensues at 11:00 am with all categories starting at the same time. To make it even more interesting, the open men top-10 are called to the front of the bunch, while the open women, juniors and masters top-10 line up behind them.
The Inaugural Wildcat Cyclocross Race saw Andy Melchenko (Colavita-CNY) dominate the Masters Men category while Frenchman, Pierre Roussel (University of Rochester / VC Chaumontais) took an equally dominant victory in the Open Men. The new event saw a very challenging course which included a creek crossing which was wetter than usual thanks to some recent heavy rains. Check out videos from the race below.
Here is a collection of videos from the Syracuse Grand Prix of Cyclocross. Check out Dan Timmerman (fiordifrutta) hop over the barriers and ride up the sandy hill without even putting a foot to the ground. The race is low key and is getting bigger every year. Next week is the Wildcat Cyclocross race http://wildcatcrossing.com/. Watch for more videos from that event.
