The Crostis descent is an extra challenge in the Giro this year. The steep gravelly descent with tight turns has been a concern after the tragic death of Wouter Weylandts. Calls for rider safety were heard by the Giro organizers RCS who likes to push the boundaries with their course to provide excitement. Until now, most of the excitement dealt with strade bianche and super steep climbs such as the Zoncolon. Alberto Contador said he was scared of the Crostis descent after a recent recon trip.
Giro organizers added some safety measure such as safety nets, and mattresses to some of the sketchier areas of the decent. The video below obtained by Tuttobici shows the new updates. The descent still looks sketchy and I find it hard to believe that the Giro was going to let the stage run without safety barriers on some of those turns.
