Lance Is Back!?

Rumors swirling about the return of Lance Armstrong to the Astana Team for 2009. From the sounds of it you might as well make plans to watch the Cyclysm 8 The return of Lance. Eh and why not. Lance Armstrong has not let himself go in the time since he retired. Marathon running seemed to be his latest passion along with going to Leadville 100 and placing second to Dave Weins. Lance Armstrong must have been watching the Tour de France on Versus with Johan Bruyneel commenting on how slow the climbers went up the climbs. Bruyneel seemed to be thinking WTF, Contador would wipe these guys away on the climbs, can’t wait for next year when Astana comes back. Well, now get a load of Astana with Contador making way for Lance.

Lance Armstrong is rumored to be signing with Astana for no money or bonuses. Lance is set with his various endorsement deals from his career, so cash is not the reason for his comeback. What Lance’s role will be on the team is not clear, but Lance does intend on riding the Tour de France.

One man who must be asking “why me” is Alberto Contador. With Astana being dis-invited to France this year, Contador was probably gunning for 2009. Now with Lance’s return to Astana, the Spanish Tour winner must be wondering what Bruyneel has in mind for team leadership.

One thing Lance’s return does do is breath new life into the prospect of the Tour de Georgia. With Lance’s intent on riding that event you can believe that a sponsor will be found soon to accomodate America’s biggest celebrity on two wheels after Miley Cyrus of course.
