Syracuse Race Weekend on New10Now
News10Now came out to do a story on the Syracuse Race. My ugly mug was running on the 24 hour local news channel non-stop all Saturday night. Cait McVey the News10Now reporter did an extended story that can be seen on the website.
The Road Race went well which it usually does. The weather was perfect with temps in the mid 70s and low humidity and lots of sun. Once the race was going I did not have too much to do except drive the course backwards to make sure that everything was OK. My biggest fear was that the Otisco Fire Dept was not going to do their usual awesome job, but those fears were for nothing.
Playing the promoter roll was fun in some ways, tiring in others. Shouting out the race instructions to the racers was fun but very repetitive. The best groups were the Cat 4 Women, Pro Women and the Masters Men 55+. The Masters Men 55+ turned out in better than expected numbers since we created a separate and split field for them. All of the racers were happy about this fact and were showering me with thanks and promises of bringing more racers out next year.
The womens groups turned out in larger than usual numbers, but I am not sure why. We did not do anything different. Perhaps the race just keeps on growing. I also made a promise to the womens group that if it goes over 20 racers that I would increase the prize depth to 10 instead of 5. They had 23 ready to race so I upped the prizes.
