Discovery Channel’s Alberto Contador was only six seconds behind Davide Rebellin going into the final stage 7 around Nice. The final stage was a brutal one with climbs up the Col D’Eze. Alberto Contador showing great form attacked Rebellin whose Gerolsteiner teammates were left far down the road.

    Contador put in a very courageous ride. He (and Disco) knew what exactly he (they) needed to do and executed it to perfection. That was one of the best stage race finishes I’ve seen in a long time.

    That was a great stage to watch. You could feel the pain that Contador was going through trying to keep his slight advantage over the chasers. Plus, I felt sympathy for Rebellin seeing all of the top GC guys sucking his wheel.
