Race Promoting

Little by little Sam and I are getting things done to make the 2007 Syracuse Race Weekend a reality. Today we met with folks from the Syracuse Parks and Recreation department. These folks were great to talk to as they seem ready and willing to help make dreams into reality. Sam and I suggested a few ideas about bringing the Syracuse Criterium Downtown and changing the Street Sprints race that is held on Saturday night to a prologue held on Friday night. They were able to come up with some excellent ideas with some interesting courses. I will release details of these ideas after I pass them through the proper channels, but there are some very exciting possibilities for the race in the future.

The Rochester Twilight Criterium received UCI status this year meaning that the race is growing enough to allow European Pro Teams to race. That event is fun to watch and race in. The course is one of my favorite crits since it has several turns with one end of the course featuring a figure eight. one road turns into a small side road that could be considered a back alley. The promoters of the Rochester Crit have probably wanted to make the race huge from the beginning since they received NRC status only last year and are already a UCI race this year. There are many ideas I hope to use in the Syracuse Race in the future, but for now I just want to make sure I can run it effectively. Next year we will take the training wheels off and see how much we can make the Syracuse Race grow.

Sorry racers we are probably going to keep the street sprints for 2007. Practice your standing starts and 600 meter sprints. But come on out it is a fun event and once your heat is done you can chill out at the local bars.
