Boonen: Five More Years
Tom Boonen has accomplished much in his short career, especially this year as he broke through to win the Tour of Flanders and Paris Roubaix. He then topped it off with a come-from-nowhere World Championships win. With this success in mind, Tom does not want to wear out his welcome, so he has decided that his career should end in about five years. IN 2010, Tom Boonen will be doing his farewell tour, deciding to leave at the young age of 30 years old. First he must get through 2006, the year in which he will wear the rainbow jersey in every race he rides. Usually you don’t see the rainbow jersey out on the road, because of the “Curse of the World Champion”. Just ask Igor Astarloa, Oscar Friere,Mario Cipollini and Luc LeBlanc about their wonderful year in the blue, red, black, yellow and green stripes. Watch for a feature in “The Curse” soon.
