Cunego wins in Japan
Damiano Cunego isn’t playing super-domestique to Simoni any longer as he played for the win in the Japan Cup. He beat Fancisco Mancebo by 3 seconds and Cristian Moreni by 27 seconds. Cunego placed second to Patrik Sinchewitz last year in Japan. Coming off of a dissappointing season where his form was compromised by a bout with Eptein-Barr syndrome, Cunego has been slowly getting back to form. He used his improving form to help “mentor” Simoni in the Giro and in recent races such as the Giro di Lombardy. Next year, Cunego is the sole leader of Lampre for the Grand Tours.
