Fixed gear bikes are taking off in popularity. Roadie legend has it that Euro pros would do their early season training on a fixed gear bike to develop their pedal stroke. Or they would simulate it by never changing out of a 45×18 gear. Now for just $200 you can setup a fixed gear bike and be like bikerati or the cyclerati.
