Petacchi is on form and that means only one thing… He wins basically every sprint stage. Today’s sprint finish was uncharacteristic for Petacchi as he lost his leadout train and had to fight through a crowd of sprinters to get the win. AleJet says that he needs to finish the Vuelta to be in top form for the Worlds in Madrid. He says that the course is much tougher than many think.

Bad move for Bernucci. The team that sucks out good performances from every rider except Alexandre Vinokouov is about to claim another victim as Lorenzo Bernucci signs with the German team. Michael Creed won’t be with Postal next year, but not by choice.
It wasn’t until after the Tour of Austria that I felt that power again, the ability to recover, and enjoy going fast on a bike. So what happened after Austria? I didn’t race again for another month, and was told 4-5 days before Tour de L’Ain that my contract would not be renewed. So, yeah, motivation went into the shitter. Anyway, fuck that. I’m not going to cry in my beer anymore. I’m looking forward to meeting new people and racing a lot more frequently. I had a great time with Postal/Disco. Got to meet some great people, got my mug on the team poster with the greatest tour rider ever, and even helped him win the tour of Georgia.
Hope he gets back on a team. Good Luck Mike!

Rabobank’s Denis Menchov took the lead in the Vuelta today with a win in the Prologue TT. Menchov beat a great time set by Rik Verbrugge (who hold the record for fastest TT in the Giro).
Notable placing are a third by Tom Danielson, 7th by defending champion Roberto Heras and a 9th place by (I focus on the Giro) Gilberto Simoni.
