Oakley RAZRwire

You’ve seen the Oakley Thumps, in fact Manny Ramirez of the Boston Red Sox wore them during a game to keep the boredom… I mean SUN out of his eyes.

Whatever ManRam’s MOTOvation, you can soon use the Oakleys to talk on you super-euro-cool RAZRphone. It is bad form to ride your bike and talk on the cell phone. It is worse than driving and talking for Crisssakes. These sunglasses from Oakley will help you look cool and talk at the same time.

Zabel quits T-Mobile

Another of the original Telekom riders is leaving the fold. Eric Zabel is not the sprinter that he once was, but apparently has a contract with another team that will be announced soon. HEW-Cyclassics – Pippo and Paolini

The HEW Cyclassics came down to a final sprint and it was Quick Step teammates Pippo Pozzato and Luca Paolini taking first and second.

Although Luca Paolini didn’t look to happy later in the podium, Quick-Step should be happy for two of their classics riders being in top form. Most surprising is that fact that Luca and Pippo did not ride the Tour and took the month of July off. This shows that most Itlian riders are ready for the August classics.

The new Tyler?

Dave Zabriske seems to be ready to replace Tyler Hamilton as the next successful, but most unlucky cyclist in the peloton. Dave suffered a deep cut in his wrist from a “fluke accident”, when a glass door shattered in front of him. Dave has undergone surgery in Denmark and will have to have his hand in a cast for a month.

Self cooling can

This is a bit of a stretch for bike technology, but Tempra Tech has come up with a self cooling can. The can can lower the temperature of a beverage instantly by 30 degrees F. Hmmm, maybe they can make waterbottles that instantly freeze…

Christophe Moreau to AG2r Prevoyance

Christophe Moreau moves over to AG2R from Credit Agricole. AG2R is hoping to step up to ProTour status now that Fassa Bortolo has left an opening.
Judging from their Tour performance, I would think twice.
Look for Panaria, or Selle Italia to get the Fassa ProTour spot.

Euro Style: How to wear you shades

Another good lesson on Euro Style and how to look good while riding. Chain Reaction has a photo essay on how riders wear their shades in the Tour. Amoung the many influences in technology and style, Lance Armstrong also popularized the wearing of sunglasses upside-down on your helmet. (I tried this, but never got it to work with my Giro Pneumo helmet. Maybe I can convince the wife I need to upgrade to the ATMOS so I can be like Lance…)

George Hincapie, probably the most-readily identifiable rider in the Peloton (nobody else wears big white sunglasses!), makes not wearing them stylish. Heck, George makes just about anything stylish.

Di Luca ready to return

Danilo DiLuca is ready for the second half of the season. After taking the month of July off to recover from the effort of the Spring Classics and Giro D’Italia, Danilo is looking to solidify his ProTour lead. He won a kermesse in Hadsten and is now preparing himself for the HEW Cyclassics in Hamburg Germany. DiLuca says that he won’t be able to match the Tour DeFrance riders who now have amazing form. Instead, he will look to gather a point or two and get back into racing condition. He hopes that his racing form will carry him to the season ending Giro Di Lombardia.
